Words: John Newton, 1779 · public domain

It follows along

Open the song that’s playing and its words light up line by line, keeping the one being sung in view. Click any line to jump the song there.

Time it yourself

Words nobody has timed? Press the timer and tap Space as each line begins. Hymnal checks the run before it keeps it.

Every language

Japanese, Korean, Cyrillic, all of it. Lyrics come from lrclib, an open library, and from Genius when lrclib has none.

Plays in Spotify

Click a title and the song starts in the Spotify app. Nothing to set up, no account to connect; free Spotify works too.

What leaves your computer

Only a song’s title and artist leave the app, to find its words (lrclib, Genius) and its Spotify track (Lotus’s lookup). Hymnal does not send song titles or lyrics to analytics. This website records aggregate page visits through Vercel Analytics. Privacy. Your hymnal stays in %APPDATA%\com.lotus\hymnal, and survives updates and uninstalls.

When Windows asks

Hymnal isn’t signed with a paid Windows publisher certificate, so SmartScreen may call the publisher unknown: choose More info → Run anyway. Every release is instead signed by Lotus. Its checksums and Ed25519 signature are on the release page if you’d like to verify first.
